Coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP) and the districts of Rayalaseema are projected to witness above-normal minimum temperatures. Meanwhile, heatwave conditions are anticipated in Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Odisha. Notably, in 2023, Andhra Pradesh recorded the highest number of heatwave days among southern Indian regions.

VISHAKHAPATNAM: Following a deficient monsoon and a dry winter, Andhra Pradesh is expected to endure a challenging summer this year. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a severe summer ahead, anticipating above-average maximum temperatures in coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP) and Rayalaseema districts from March to May. Nighttime temperatures are also forecasted to be higher than usual across most parts of the state during this period.

VISHAKHAPATNAM: After a scanty monsoon and a parched winter, Andhra Pradesh braces for a tough summer ahead this year. The India Meteorological Department’s predictions point towards challenging weather conditions in the region.

The meteorologists at IMD have highlighted that the prevailing El Nino conditions are a key factor contributing to the elevated temperatures and heatwave conditions experienced, surpassing the usual norms.

Andhra Pradesh (AP) encountered a total of 21 heatwave days in 2023. Among these, June witnessed 11 days of intense heat, while April and May each had six and three heatwave days, respectively. July saw just one day with scorching temperatures. Notably, AP had the highest count of heatwave days in South India for the year 2023.

The upcoming summer is expected to be influenced by persistent El Nino conditions. Meteorologists predict that the first week of March will bring scorching days to certain areas of the state, with the possibility of heatwave conditions in some regions by the end of March. Daytime temperatures in many parts of the state have already started to reach 35-38 °C.
