On Sunday, Prime Minister virtually inaugurated a 300-bed satellite center of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Sangrur, Punjab. He also laid the foundation stone for a 100-bed facility in Ferozepur.
Modi addressed the nation from Gujarat’s Rajkot and virtually inaugurated five All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rajkot, Bathinda (Punjab), Raebareli (Uttar Pradesh), Kalyani (West Bengal), and Mangalagiri (Andhra Pradesh).
PGIMER Director Professor Vivek Lal later issued a statement, saying, “The establishment of PGIMER’s satellite centers in Sangrur and Ferozepur highlights the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare’s steadfast commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and providing advanced medical facilities to all corners, ensuring equitable healthcare access for everyone in the state of Punjab.”
PGIMER’s satellite centres in Sangrur and Ferozepur will feature state-of-the-art facilities and serve as beacons of hope, healing, and progress for the communities they cater to. Additionally, these centres will extend their reach to the underserved population in remote areas through community outreach activities.
Lal said the PGIMER center in Sangrur is poised to cater to the healthcare needs of the surrounding communities by offering a wide range of medical services and specialties.
Similarly, the foundation stone for the Ferozepur satellite center lays the groundwork for future healthcare excellence in the region. The PGIMER director stated that it promises enhanced medical care and facilities.
Key features of the Sangrur PGIMER center include 300 beds, five large and two small operation theaters, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) wards, emergency services, In-Patient Department (IPD) services, a telemedicine center, and a range of other cutting-edge amenities.
The foundation stone for this hospital was laid in 2013, and its construction was completed in two phases, the statement said.
The satellite center of PGIMER in Ferozepur is planned to accommodate 100 indoor beds. In addition to the hospital blocks, the facility will include well-equipped emergency units, modular operation theatres, ICUs, and other essential amenities.
The Ferozepur center will also accommodate 17 different specialty and super-specialty departments, along with operating theaters.
