Masaba Gupta reveals mother Neena Gupta was warned she will never be a lead actress because of ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’; says it turned out to be true – Times of India

Masaba Gupta recently spoke about actresses playing the role of mothers in Bollywood and getting typecast. She also cited the example of her mother Neena Gupta.

Masaba revealed that when her mother said yes to ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’, everyone told her that if she played the role of a funny girl, she would never be a lead actress. According to Masaba, it turned out to be true. ‘Badhaai Ho’ was the film in which she played the lead role at the age of 60, the fashion designer-turned-actress told Pinkvilla.

‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ was a satirical black comedy film that also starred actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Satish Shah, Satish Kaushik, Pankaj Kapur and others.

On the work front, Neena was last seen in ‘Vadh’ co-starring Sanjay Mishra. The film received mixed reviews from the audience and the critics alike.

Masaba, on the other hand, made her acting debut with her web show, ‘Masaba Masaba’. She has successfully completed two seasons of the series.
