Cyberabad cops nab 57,000 for drunken driving this year, 979 sent to jail | Hyderabad News – Times of India

HYDERABAD: Cyberabad traffic police caught 57,175 motorists this year for driving under the influence of alcohol. Among them, 979 people were jailed by court. The court made the druken drivers pay a total fine of Rs 16 crore till December.
On the recommendation of the court, driving licences of 110 motorists had been suspended. Cyberabad police officials said the highest number of fatalities occurred on national highways, followed by roads and building and GHMC roads.
Among the 415 people who died while riding two-wheelers, only 44 were wearing helmets, police said. The incidence of road accidents, however, came down by 19%, they said.
