HYDERABAD: The Congress has charged the BRS government of trying to mislead the minorities ahead of 2023-Assembly elections by inviting applications to avail subsidy loans to set up self-employment units.
Telangana Congress minorities cell chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail on Monday said the state government has released only Rs 50 crore to provide subsidy loans to 5,000 jobless youth from the minority communities.
There are 15 lakh youth from Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Jain communities waiting to avail loans on government subsidy to set up their self-employment units. But a loan of about Rs. 1 lakh to only 5,000 jobless youth is nothing but a move with an eye on the vote bank of minorities ahead of 2023-Assembly elections, he alleged.
Abdullah Sohail alleged that the BRS government did not provide loans to minorities in the last eight years. As many as 1.53 lakh jobless youth had applied for loans when the BRS government invited applications in 2015-16 fiscal. “Not a single application was cleared and later the government stopped taking applications. Despite assurances given by CM KCR, not much has been done to implement the economic empowerment scheme for the minorities,” Abdullah Sohail said.
“Now the BRS government has invited loan applications after a gap of seven years. Instead of allocating a big amount to help a large number of jobless youth, only Rs 50 crore has been earmarked,” he said.
He demanded that the BRS government sanction at least Rs. 1,000 crore to provide loans to at least one lakh jobless youth during the current fiscal. The Congress would soon launch an agitation to expose the BRS government failure in implementing welfare schemes for minorities, Abdullah Sohail added.
