Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has been remanded to six days in Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody until March 28 by a Delhi court. On Friday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) requested a 10-day custody of CM Kejriwal. The agency alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its ministers had accepted bribes totaling over ₹100 crores from liquor contractors almost two years ago. During the court hearing at Rouse Avenue Court on Friday, the ED disclosed that AAP had gained advantages from the Delhi liquor policy and allegedly diverted ₹45 crore from that source towards the Goa elections.
“As Convenor of AAP, Kejriwal named the accused on behalf of the party and arrested”, ED said.
Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, strongly opposed the remand plea. He emphasized the importance for the agency to demonstrate the necessity of the arrest. Singhvi elaborated on the distinction between the power to arrest and the necessity for carrying out an arrest.
While entering the court complex, CM Kejriwal spoke to reporters, expressing his unwavering dedication to the country. He emphasized, “My life is dedicated to the country, regardless of whether I find myself within the confines of a prison or freely outside.” His commitment to serving the nation shines through in both his words and actions.
